Cricket is not just a sport, it’s an emotion and it is a known fact. If there is one encounter in cricket that everyone looks forward to is India vs. Pakistan match. The entire Indian subcontinent comes to a standstill when men in blue come face to face with the arch-rivals.
And it’s no doubt that the both team players give their 100 % to make their country win and in that process, they may sometimes indulge in some serious sledging’s on the field and off the field too. Some even pass healthy comments giving their view of points on the opposite player’s abilities of performance.
Similarly, expressing his views about Pakistani fast bowling machine Mohammad Amir, Indian star batsman Rohit Sharma has called him as a “normal bowler,” before the ICC World T20 in 2016, saying the hype around the returning Pakistan quick was unjustified. Instead, Rohit hailed emerging India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah as a “rare talent”.
“There is just so much hype around him. I don’t think it is right to give him too much hype after one match. He is good but he needs to prove it over and over again. Now people are comparing him to Wasim Akram and all that. He is just a normal bowler, on that given day if he is good, he is good. It is not as if he turns up and blows everyone away,” said Rohit.
However, Virat Kohli had called Amir as “world-class” bowler. “I would like to compliment Mohammad Amir for the way he bowled. I actually congratulated him while he was bowling,“ Kohli had said after Amir bowled a fiery spell against India in the Asia Cup.
Though the Pakistani pacer chose to remain silent at that time, he has spoken up on the matter now.
In an exclusive interview with PakPassion.com, Mohammad Amir had his say on the Rohit Sharma’s ‘ordinary Bowler’ Comment. A humble Amir said that Rohit Sharma’s views are completely his own but he hopes they have changed now.
Amir added that Sharma is an outstanding batsman and his contributions for India are worth praising. Amir went on to add that he has immense respect as a cricketer for Rohit Sharma.
“That was his opinion about me and he is entitled to that opinion. Maybe his opinion about me has now changed. But let’s get one thing clear, I would never call him an ordinary batsman, in fact, I would call him an extraordinary batsman. His record for India is superb and I respect him. His opinions about other cricketers are up to him, but with all due respect I never worry about what other cricketers have to say about me.” said Amir.
“It’s not my concern at all and I just concentrate on my performances and what I am doing for my team. If I worried about other people’s opinions of me that would just cause me stress and that is why I avoid it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, whether it’s labelling a cricketer world-class or ordinary; it is up to that individual,” Aamer added.
If you remember Mohammad Amir dismissed Sharma in the all important Champions Trophy final last month for a duck. Pakistan went onto win the match which saw the men in the green lift the trophy for the first time in history.
