Cricket is definitely a gentlemen’s game. It is one of the sports that have a huge craze among people all over the world. After Football, Cricket is the most popular game around the globe. Coming to India, after Bollywood, it’s cricket which works as the essential source of entertainment for the people in the country.
Indian cricketers’ are known for their love, compassion, and attachment for their nation. And one such principal example has to be former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. His love for the Indian army is no secret. We all know his love towards Indian Army, Dhoni had earlier been in the headlines for his flaunting nature of the cargo print which commonly symbolizes the military outfits.
The most decorated Indian cricket captain in history has often said he would’ve joined the armed forces had he not made it as a professional cricketer. But questioning Dhoni’s affection towards the nation, there has been a probable discussion on Quora and it is about his helmet.
While current Indian skipper Virat Kohli proudly wears the flag on his helmet, it isn’t the same case with Dhoni. As cricket enthusiasts, we have seen Indian batsman removing the helmet, kissing them, after scoring a hundred, but did we ever notice The Indian Flag on it. Yes, we do obviously, but have you noticed that every Indian cricketer has got that?
Sachin, Kohli, Dhawan or Yuvraj have the Indian Flag on their helmet except for the most successful Indian skipper MS Dhoni. And here’s the question why?
Now, a fan has come up with a theory as to why the legend doesn’t sport the Indian flag on his helmet the way many other Team India stars do. According to a Quora user, Dhoni refuses to have a small flag stuck at the front of his helmet, a trend that was started years ago by the great Sachin Tendulkar because he believes it is disrespectful and against the law.
As per, THE PREVENTION OF INSULTS TO NATIONAL HONOUR ACT, 1971 (Amended by the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Act, 2003) which says, Explanation 4. – The disrespect to the Indian National Flag means and includes- “(i) allowing the Indian National Flag to touch the ground or the floor or trail in water intentionally; or”
Even MSD used to wear the same helmet until 2011 World cup but he decided otherwise later on.
Also, wicket-keepers rotate between wearing and removing their helmets, depending on whether or not they’re standing up at the stumps. If they’re not wearing it, they tend to place it on the ground behind them since sending it back to the dressing room each time isn’t plausible. Dhoni, apparently, doesn’t like the idea of the Indian flag being placed on the floor, which is why he doesn’t sport it on his helmet.
Well, although this is only a fan theory and cannot be verified, it does seem like something Dhoni would do. And if at all it is true, Dhoni has given us many reasons to love him over the years, this is just another addition.
