Collecting a stump after every victory of Team India is a distinctive habit that’s commonly observed with Captain MS Dhoni. Irrespective of the opposition or tournament, the skipper never fails to complete this ritual. There are many stories surrounding this act committed by MS Dhoni.
Back then, there was a story that was widely circulated on social media and mainstream media networks. It was told that Dhoni used to collect the stumps for his childhood friend Kulbinder, the son of his school’s watchman. Kulbinder was not only his best friend growing up but also the person who encouraged him to take up cricket.
However, the latest source from BCCI proposed the otherwise fact. As per the reports from BCCI, on being asked about his habit of taking stumps from the pitch and taking them with him, Dhoni said with a smile,
“That’s my retirement plan. The good thing is that I do collect a lot of stumps but the bad one is I don’t put a mark as to which match they were from. So, after I retire I’ll watch the videos of all my matches, look closely at the sponsors’ logos on the stumps and figure out which match a stump belongs to. It will be my post-cricket pass time.”
However, coming to the story of his friend Kulbinder, it is believed that Maahi is often ready to help him in any financial issue, though Kulbinder restrains from asking anything from his dearest friend MS Dhoni. As of now, Kulbinder has constructed a small house for which he did not take any financial help from Dhoni.
Hence, this talk of Dhoni promptly collecting stumps to hand it over to his dear friend is all but nothing less than a mere rumor. Dhoni has never mentioned this friend or this motive for collecting stumps at any instance.
