Rising Pune Supergiants Skipper Steve Smith Suffers A Nasty Collision With Ben Stokes In IPL

During the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rising Pune Supergiants, RPS Captain Steve Smith and All-rounder Ben Stokes had a horrific collision at the boundary rope while both attempt to take the catch. Both Stokes and Smith are said to be the most athletic fielders in all the formats of Cricket.

It happened off in the 19th over, bowled by Jaydev Unadkat to Nathan Coulter-Nile. The KKR tail-ender hit the slower delivery for a skier, towards deep mid-wicket. Smith definitely saw the Englishman coming across for the grab off Nathan Coulter-Nile, but there was clearly a lack of communication.

It appeared the requisite call of “MINE!” was sorely missing, leading to the big crash. It’s the moment Aussie cricket fans would have held their breath. Smith rammed into Stokes, who was also chasing the flight of the ball, and the Aussie captain tumbled over the boundary, landing head first into the ad hoarding.

Smith slumped to the ground as a concerned Stokes immediately signaled for assistance. The Aussie skipper eventually got back to his feet and waved the trainer away before giving the thumbs up to everybody that he was ok.

Adding insult to injury was the fact that Stokes actually took the catch as he jumped over the ropes before throwing it back infield as he collided with Smith. On top of that, Smith managed to bat but failed to score big.

However, RPS won the match by 4 wickets with help of opener Rahul Tripathi’s unbeaten 93 off 52 balls.
