Team India beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 171 runs inside three days in the third and final Test to complete a 3-0 whitewash. Virat Kohli became the first Indian captain to sweep a Test series away from home after the visitors hammered Sri Lanka in the Pallekele Test.

India made it three wins from three Tests after beating Sri Lanka by an innings and 171 runs in the third and final Test. Fast bowler Mohammed Shami took two wickets as India marched towards an innings victory. This is India’s first ever clean-sweep away from home in a series with at least three Tests.

Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul were aggressive against Sri Lankan bowlers. It was Hardik Pandya who provided the momentum in the end with his maiden Test century. Dhawan was awarded the Man of the Series award for his consistent batting throughout the series with 358 runs including 2 brilliant centuries.

When Dhawan’s name was announced in the post match presentation ceremony, he was seen dancing up the stage to receive his award. It was moon walk followed by his trademark smile on his face. Dhawan said that he likes playing aggressively as it is his natural game.

Dhawan revealed that he was holidaying in Hong Kong when Murali Vijay got injured and he was called back as his replacement. “Before this series, I was in Hong Kong enjoying the holiday. Unfortunately one of our openers was unfit and I got a chance to come over here and by the grace of God things went very well for me and got the Man of the Series award. I am enjoying my batting right now,” Shikhar Dhawan said.

“I enjoy playing, this is my natural game (playing positive cricket). I have to keep performing well because we have tough competition for all the slots, so that is a great sign for Indian cricket. It keeps me on my toes,” Shikhar Dhawan concluded.
