Sourav Ganguly Confuses Harbhajan Singh’s Daughter For A Boy, Then Apologises For The Gaffe

Right from the inception of social media has come into power, people use it as a strong medium or tool to voice their opinions. Not only common people, even politicians, celebrities are active on few micro-blogging sites. While some choose these platforms only to stick to promoting something and posting their photos, others take it a serious place to express their views regarding social issues.

We all know that former Indian opener Virender Sehwag and veteran Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh are the most popular and active people on Twitter. But former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly isn’t the most active person on social media.

But what’s surprising is he took to Twitter to comment on a picture posted by Harbhajan Singh, featuring his wife and daughter. Though, Ganguly didn’t know he would go on to commit a gaffe.

Harbhajan, along with his wife Geeta Basra and daughter Hinaya Heer Plaha paid a visit to the Golden Temple, Amritsar. Bhajji, later, uploaded a picture from the visit on his Twitter account. He wrote, “Satnam Shri Waheguru ji.. sab nu khush te tandrust rakhna Malka #Blessings #blessed #shukrana.”

This drew Dada’s attention and he went on to tweet which read, “Beta bahut Sundar hai bhajj..bahut Pyar dena. (Your son is very beautiful Bhajji, give him lots of love).”

However, it didn’t take him long to understand that a gaffe has been committed and a correction of the comment was made very soon. Admitting that he made a mistake, Ganguly issued clarification with another tweet. “Maf Karna beti bahut sundoor hai..getting old bhajj. (I apologize! I meant your daughter is very beautiful. I am getting old!”, he tweeted.

The slip of tongue from Ganguly could be understood considering the fact that Bengalis have gender-neutral terms and that most likely was the reason behind Sourav’s error.

On the other hand, Harbhajan thanked his former skipper for the blessings and returned love to Sana (Dada’s daughter), while also hoping to catch-up with him soon. “Dada thank you for your blessings..love to Sana.. hope to see u soon,” Bhajji replied.

Sourav Ganguly also reflected on Virat Kohli’s performance on Day 5 of the 1st Test between India and Sri Lanka in Kolkata on Monday but refused to draw comparisons between the current skipper and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

“It’s too early to compare him with Sachin. He still has to make 50 more centuries. But the way he is going, he will make many more such hundreds,” Ganguly told reporters at the close of play.
