Indian captain, Virat Kohli is one of the fittest cricketers in the world. In the last couple of years, he had inspired many young Indian cricketers to work hard on their fitness in order to be able to play all the three formats of the game consistently.
Keeping in sync with Virat Kohli’s uncompromising training regimen, the Indian cricketers are now undergoing Yo-Yo and DNA tests that reveal the genetic fitness blueprint of an individual, raising the bar to a level hitherto unseen. Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made Yo-Yo fitness test mandatory for selection.
The test helps a sportsman improve his speed, in fat burning, endurance, recovery time, and muscle building. It has been learned that the BCCI has introduced this test on the recommendation of team trainer Shankar Basu so that a more comprehensive fitness program for the national team can be chalked out.
From then, the fitness culture has visibly taken over the Indian cricket fraternity too to make sure that they are neck against the fittest teams in the world. As all the players try to be fit, there is one person in the Indian team who still has to seriously spend some time in the gym. He is none other than India Head Coach Ravi Shastri.
Here in the picture below, he can be seen talking to others in the support staff and management with a potbelly posted by former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli on Twitter. He wrote, “This coach really needs Fitness?????????.”

It is hilarious, isn’t it? The standards of fitness are so high now that it is a criterion for selection for players to get into the team, yet coach is content with having a paunch.
Apart from Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni is the walking example of incredible athleticism due to fitness, players like Hardik Pandya, Manish Pandey, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have benefited due to focus on fitness. It will be interesting to see if Ravi Shastri takes note of this joke by Kambli and decides to hit the gym with the players.
Team India recently completed playing 3-match Test series with South Africa and lost the series 1-2. However, with the best limited-overs squad, Indian team is confident about upcoming ODI series against the Proteas.
