India star batsman and Test Skipper Virat Kohli had lost his top spot in the latest ICC rankings announced by International Cricket Council. Of his poor performance in the T20 series against South Africa dropped Kohli from the first position. Kohli lost his rank to Australian batsman Aaron Finch by nine points after a poor performance against South Africa.
Despite scoring 43 runs in the first innings in Dharmasala, he was run-out in the second match at Cuttack scoring 1 run. The 3 match series has ended with a wash out due to the wet outfield in Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Kohli didn’t get the chance to prove his batting in the third match. Even this could be one of the reasons for Virat to lose the first spot.
Aaron Finch last played an international T20 match in November 2014 and had since been overtaken by the Indian earlier this year. But surprisingly, due to the below average performance of Kohli against Proteas, he was dropped from the first position. There is no other Indian in the Top 10 rankings in T20Is except Virat Kohli (2nd).
Suresh Raina after Kohli is on the list at No 12, followed by Rohit Sharma at No 21 and MS Dhoni at No 36. As India also dropped its ranking after the series loss against South Africa, Indian players also had some change in their individual rankings. Ravichandran Ashwin (No. 4) is the only Indian bowler in the Top 10 of the ICC T20I Rankings for Bowlers.
