India captain Mithali Raj created a new history in Women’s Cricket by crossing former England skipper Charlotte Edwards to become the highest run scorer in Women’s One-Day Internationals (ODI) yesterday. She scored 6028 runs and beat Charlotte Edwards, who was in the first position, with 5992 runs.
Looks as if England tournament has proved to be lucky for Mithali. Yes, Mithali Raj has proved that she is a run-machine and made India proud by registering a new world record on her name; she smashed this record yesterday in her match against Australia.
After the match, the total number of runs in Mithali’s shoulders were 6028. And to everyone’s surprise, she just took 183 matches(164 innings) to reach this great milestone.
Not only this, Mithali also became the first woman to cross the 6000 runs mark. The entire men’s cricket team congratulated her on Twitter and poured in good wishes. She completely deserved all this!
Prior to breaking this, Mithali had created another record of scoring seven consecutive half-centuries in ODIs. While Mithali’s fan-count has been swelling in numbers in recent times, especially after her bold stance against the marginalization of women’s cricket, her latest feat will only command her further respect.
As the Indian skipper is shattering records in the on-going Women’s World Cup, Twitter exploded with wishes for the Indian captain. Among those who congratulated was the men’s team captain, Virat Kohli
Take a look at some of the reactions from cricketers and pundits after her latest feat:

However, Virat Kohli’s tweet took the limelight as expected. But the Indian captain ended with a major goof-up in his appreciation for the Women champion.
In his tweet, Virat not only wished Mithali on Twitter but also posted a special message for her on Facebook. However, in this excitement, Virat didn’t realize that he made a big “Blunder” in his Facebook post.
Here’s the screenshot of his FB post:
He congratulated Mithali but posted Poonam Raut’s pic. He wrote, “A great moment for Indian Cricket, Mithali Raj becomes the highest run scorer in Women’s ODI Cricket History today. Champion Stuff!”
Maybe in a hurry, he didn’t crosscheck the pic that he posted along with the message. Even though Kohli did not realize the fault the online community was quick enough to point out the error. Infact, people made fun of silly Virat’s goof-up in the comments section.

This was indeed a big mistake and he should have posted it carefully. But it’s rightly said, “Galti toh insaan se hi hoti hai”. Let us not criticize him as it was completely unintentional.
