It is undoubtedly clear that former Ace cricketer Virender Sehwag took on to his second innings on Twitter. Since the beginning, Sehwag has been spreading some unbeatable humor across the social media. His wit and humor is something that everyone loves.
From giving us a dose of laughter to taking a stand on a political issue, Virender Sehwag has done it all. The destructive batsman and the current wittiest person on Twitter are once again in the news and this time, it is not because he trolled someone or made fun of anyone.
This time, he took a swipe at Team India head coach Ravi Shastri, casually asserting that he was not selected for the job role of team India coach due to no connections with the BCCI. Sehwag also claimed that he was convinced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) members to apply for India coaching job, which he was never interested in.
Sehwag was recently asked in a TV show regarding the reason for not being picked ahead of Shastri, to which he replied, “See, I didn’t have any setting. When I was in England during the Champions Trophy, I had asked Ravi Shastri that why he hasn’t applied for the post? Shastri then told me that he will not repeat the mistake which he had already made once.”
The former opener was in his elements and claimed that he was tricked by a section of the BCCI into applying for the post. “I never thought of coaching the Indian cricket team. I was given an offer to coach the team. The BCCI (acting) secretary Amitabh Chaudhary and GM (Game Development) MV Sridhar came to me and requested me to think about the offer. I took my time and then applied for the position,” Sehwag revealed.
He also claimed that he had even consulted India captain Virat Kohli before applying. “I also had a word with Virat Kohli, he asked me to go for it. It was only then that I applied. If you ask for my opinion, I would say that I was never interested. I thought since they are requesting me, I should help them. I never thought of applying on my own nor will I ever apply in future,” Sehwag replied.
Sehwag also pointed out that he has no intentions of applying for the position in the near future and would have never applied at the first place if he knew that former India captain Ravi Shastri will also be applying for the same position.
“Dekhiye main coach isliye Nahi ban paaya kyonki jo bhi coach Chun rahe the unse Mera koi setting Nahin tha. (Look I couldn’t become the (India) coach because I didn’t have any setting (common slang for hobnobbing with decision-makers) with those who were in power of appointing the coach),” Sehwag told Hindi news channel during a chat show.
Sehwag lost out to Shastri, who was touted as the choice of skipper Virat Kohli, an appointment that was not unanimous with former India captain Sourav Ganguly, a member of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), strongly against the decision.
Virender Sehwag was one of the top six applicants that applied for the post including Shastri, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus and Lalchand Rajput after Anil Kumble resigned following a bitter fallout with captain Virat Kohli. But Kohli’s reluctance against his application is known to have played a major part in Shastri’s favored appointment.
