New Zealand star batsman Ross Taylor played a big role by scoring 95 runs in New Zealand’s 6 wicket win over India in the 1st ODI at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Taylor has a lot of experience of playing in India and he made full use of that while countering India’s young spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.
India had batted first and scored 280/8 with Indian captain Virat Kohli highlighting his 200th ODI with a sublime century (121). Trent Boult gave a bolt to Indian batting with 4/35, including the big guns like MS Dhoni, Dhawan and Rohit Sharma.
Chasing a hefty total of 281 at Wankhede, the visitors were struggling at 80/3 and everyone thought they would capitulate in front of the wrist spinners much like the Aussies did. But the duo of Tom Latham and Taylor came to the fore and stitched a record partnership of 200 runs.
Tom Latham remained unbeaten on 103 runs while Taylor perished on 95 with the winning line in sight. However, Taylor’s persistence and steady approach earned him plaudits from Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik in the post-match interviews.
Former India captain Virender Sehwag, whose funny Twitter posts keep his fans entertained a lot. This time too, he didn’t let the opportunity go to waste and tried mocking Ross Taylor for his innings. He tweeted “Well played @RossLTaylor Darji Ji. Great effort after handling the pressure of Diwali orders .”

To which, Ross Taylor replied in an even funny way, that too in Hindi. Taylor wrote: “Thanks, @virendersehwag Bhai agli Baar Apna order time pe Bhej Dena so Mai Apko agli Diwali Ke Pehle deliver kardunga ….happy Diwali.”

The Nawab of Najafgarh was impressed with Taylor’s reply. He went on to tweets, “Hahaha Masterji is saal waali patloon hi ek bilaang Choti karke Dena next Diwali pe. Ross the Boss, most sporting :).”

It didn’t end here. Taylor kept the banter going. He replied saying, “Has your Darji not done a good job this Diwali?”

Finally, the banter ended with Sehwag’s reply saying, “No one can match up to your high standards of stitching Darji Ji, whether it is a pant or a partnership @RossLTaylor.”
