UC Browser, has said it has now captured over 50 percent market share in the country as of September 2015, according to data compiled by web traffic analysis tool Statcounter.
On Thursday Kenny Ye, director of international business development division, UCWeb, said “UC Browser has seen staggering success in the Indian market with market share rising 15 percent in the last 12 months helping the company gain over 50 percent market here.As of today, one out of two mobile page views come from UC which is driven by UC’s cloud-based browsing technology, power of data and cost saving and providing local content.”
He Added “We are currently working with nearly 5,000 partners to drive content and services on the app. We are also tying up with smartphone manufacturers and brands to include our app on their phones.”
Now The company, which has three modes of revenue generation, had last year launched UC Open platform to aid the Indian developers, content providers, publishers and advertisers to access across-the-board services for brand promotion, user/traffic acquisition, actionable user metric analysis and IP protection and monetisation.
UC Browser does not come pre-installed as the default browser on Android or iOS, so it still lags behind Chrome (29.8 percent), Android Browser (18.9 percent), and Safari (21.9 percent). Not just a one-off milestone, UC Browser has held the number four spot overall since October.
Its growth is led by China and India, where it holds the number one spots in both countries. It boasts 41.2 percent market share in India, up nine percent from a year earlier. That’s almost twice the market share of second-place Chrome.
