Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi confirms that the upcoming event is scheduled for August 13 where the company will unveil the new MIUI 7 , the next version of its Android-based operating system. The company is also expected to reveal its next flagship smartphone, Xiaomi Mi 5 during the same event. Although the company is tight-lipped about new features, it’s safe to assume that MIUI 7 will be based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, the latest version of Android.
The official unveiling will take place at the China National Convention Centre. Teasing the launch event, an administrator on the firm’s MIUI forum said, “Xiaomi new product launch event is coming on Aug 13, 2015! And it’s confirmed, MIUI 7 will be released!“ says a post on its forum.
Now Xiaomi might also announce the Mi 5, the successor to its flagship Mi 4 smartphone at the event. After all, the Mi 4 was launched in July 2014 along with MIUI 6. The price, NDTV Gadgets speculates, would be approximately Rs. 24,500, putting the phone in the ballpark of the recently released OnePlus 2.
Xiaomi’s MIUI was launched over a year ago. MIUI offers a great set of customisations which make the Xiaomi device a class apart from its competitors. The rumoured Microsoft Windows 10-based Xiaomi Mi tablet may also make a debut on the same day. According to a report by GizmoChina, Pan Jiutang, a known Chinese analyst states that the device will not be running on the Android version as its predecessor but instead, it will reportedly run on the new Windows 10 platform. However, no information was provided whether it is the standard Windows 10 edition or the Windows 10 mobile edition that will run on the Mi Tablet.
