Google Earth Satellite Helped Solve 22-Year-Old Cold Case

Wellington, Florida: A South Florida Man who went missing in 1997 has been found in a retention pond thanks to Google Earth.

The skeletal remains of William Moldt, who was reported missing on November 8, 1997, were found in a car dumped in a retention pond in the Grand Isles at the Wellington Community.

Teri Barbera, the spokeswoman of Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, said the car was found in the pond behind a resident’s house on Moon Bay Circle last month.

Barbara added, “The vehicle’s exterior was heavily calcified and was obviously in the water for a significant amount of time. Upon removing the vehicle, skeletal remains were found inside.”

The medical examiner’s office positively identified the remains of William Moldt.

When Moldt went missing, the Grand Isles at Wellington Community was still under construction, and the satellite image used in Google Earth was taken in 2007.

It was recently that a man discovered the car submerged in water and decided to report it to the local authorities.
