Sony’s PlayStation 4 is now the second best-selling video of the company after it reaches the 100 Million mark.
In a statement that was released by Sony, they said the company sold over 2.8 million PlayStation 4’s to retailers during the quarter ending September 30, 2019.
This places the sales numbers of the PS4 over the 100 million mark.
Sony’s PlayStation 4 was first released in November 2013, and it currently has 3 variants.
According to Daniel Ahmad, an analyst with Niko Partners, PS4 surpassed the original PlayStation and now trails only the PlayStation 2, which was released in 2000.
Ahmed also said that the PlayStation 4 is the fastest console that hit the 100 million mark.
Sales of the PlayStation 4 are slowing, this is because the PlayStation 5 is expected to drop next year.
Last year, in the same quarter, Sony sold over 3.9 PlayStation 4s to retailers.
Sony is also nearing 1 billion PlayStation games sold.
By the end of 2018, Sony sold 876 million games to consumers. This year, Sony sold 158.9 million games to retailers, but not to consumers.
Sony is likely to hit the 1 billion games sold to consumers mark by next year, especially with games such as “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” and “Death Stranding” arriving this year.
Sony also announced that they are currently working on the PlayStation 5, which is going to be released during the holiday season in 2020.
The tech giant will go head-to-head with Microsoft, who is currently working on Project Scarlett, which is the successor of the Xbox One. The console will be released during the holiday season next year.
