A 15-year-old girl that had a rare genetic condition, which caused her to get wrinkles at an early age, went through a life-changing surgery that gave her a new face.
The 15-year-old girl, who is known as Xiao Feng, was not happy with the illness she had due to the constant bullying she had to face.
Good Samaritans in China saw her problem, and they raised over £20,000 so they can cover her medical bills.
Her transformation was recently revealed to the public.
Surgeons from the Shenyang Sunline Plastic Surgery Hospital said the 15-year-old Feng suffered from progeria, which caused someone to age prematurely.
The hospital said Feng’s disease only affected her face, not her organs.
The mother of Feng has the same condition.
On December 29, 2019, a seven and half hour surgery was done to remove the excess skin on her face.
The surgery also reshaped her nose, eyebrows, and mouth.
Dr. Shi Lingzhi told the paper that the hospital canceled the total £56,000 bill of the hospital.
Dr. Shi wanted the money to be used for her education and recovery.
The new-look of Feng was presented at a press conference in Shenyang, China.
Before the surgery, Feng said, “Nobody wants to play with me, and only pigeons are willing to accompany me because they won’t dislike me or think I am ugly.”
The father of Feng added, “The night after Xiao Feng’s surgery was the night when I slept the soundest because I believed that doctors could cure my daughter’s condition and help her live and study happily in the future.”
The father continued, “When she was in her primary school, she was often mistaken for “the parents of pupils”; and whenever she went to the town with her mother, people would surround them, look at them and discuss about them.”
Feng’s condition was discovered by Guo Mingyi, a philanthropist after the 15-year-old girl wrote a letter to him.
In the letter, Feng wrote: “I am 15 years old, but I have the face of a 60-year-old. How I long to look like a high school student.”
Guo immediately agreed to help the girl and agreed to give her a discount on the surgery.
Guo later organized a charity drive to raise the cash needed for the surgery, he also organized a marathon for the fundraising.
The 15-year-old is currently recovering from the surgery she went through.
