6 bonded laborers were rescued from a water treatment plant in Chennai, 2 out of them were children, said the district administration of Chennai.
The Child Rights activists who helped carry out the raids said that the two rescued children laborers are originally from Odisha, and that the kids were forced to work in the treatment plant after the employees paid their parents in advance.
The Child Rights Activists added that the parents of the children received Rs. 4,000 to 16,000 from the employees of the said treatment plan.
According to the officials the minors were forced to work at the Water Treatment Plant without wearing any protective gear.
Officials added that the kids had scratch marks, bruises, and other minor injuries on their bodies.
The employees who brought them to Chennai are currently on the run.
The District Collector of Chennai said that a case has been registered under the Prevention of Bonded Labourers Act and Prevention of Child Labourers Act.
The government of Chennai has also sealed the Water Treatment Plant.
