Deon Austin Welch, a 30-year-old man from California, was sentenced to 230 years in prison for raping and impregnating his girlfriend’s daughter.
It is reported that the man started to rape the daughter of his girlfriend when she was just 11-years-old.
The 11-year-old girl gave birth to a child when she was just 13-years-old.
According to KTLA, it took the Jury almost three hours to convict Deon Austin Welch.
The man pleaded guilty on 15 counts of child rape and sexual abuse on June 24.
The crimes of Deon include sodomy by force and sexual penetration of a minor under the age of 14.
It is reported that Deon did not show any emotion in court after he was sentenced to 230 years in prison for raping and impregnating the child.
According to Bernard Schwartz, the Riverside County Superior County Judge, Deon will still have to register as a sex offender.
Judge Bernard said this will be done so if a future law allows him to regain his freedom, he would still be registered as a sex offender.
During the hearing, Judge Bernard said, “If a defendant ever deserved a maximum sentence, in a case such as this, Mr. Welch deserves it.”
The Hemet Police arrested Deon on March 17, 2017, after a DNA test proved that he was the father of the 13-year-old girl’s child.
Last year, the Riverside County was forced to pay the 13-year-old girl $10 Million USD in a settlement after the government learned that the child’s sexual abuse was initially reported to the county’s Adult and Children’s Protective Services divisions years ago.
The mother of the victim told her co-worker that Deon inappropriately touched her daughter.
It is reported that Deon used to sneak inside the room of the 11-year-old girl during night times and would sexually assault the child.
The Children’s Services was told about the incident and investigators gave the child a forensic medical exam in June 2014.
A trial brief that was obtained by KTLA says that the mother of the 11-year-old girl demanded to be present during the forensic medical exam and interfered as it was being administered.
This led to inconclusive results.
Weeks later, the mother of the 11-year-old girl dropped a restraining order against Deon Austin Welch.
But in October 2014, the girl told a social worker that Deon Austin Welch returned to her home.
The social workers failed to act and protect the girl until a doctor confirmed that the child was 6 months pregnant.
The doctor broke the news in 2016.
