3 years ago, Jen Atkin, the current winner of Miss Great Britain, was planning her dream wedding when suddenly her fiancé called their wedding off.
The reasons that Atkin’s fiancé had was pretty petty.
He said he was calling off the wedding because Atkins was eating too much junk food and had gotten too fat.
Fast forward to today, Jen is now married and was recently crowned as Miss Great Britain.
Jen, who is an aviation administrator, swapped takeaways for healthy living and ended up losing 8 stones.
She reportedly went from size 22 to a size 10 in just 2 years.
After slimming from 17 stones to 9 stones, Jen was named Miss Scunthorpe before going on to compete for the title of Miss England in the year 2018.
In 2018, she finished as the first runner up.
She later retired from competing in a beauty pageant, but when the 75th Miss Great Britain competition came, she gave it one more shot.
While competing in the contest, she came and nabbed the title.
Talking about winning the beauty pageant, Jen said, “I’m still in shock at winning, I’m so happy I can’t even put it into words – I honestly can’t believe it.”
She added, “When I started doing this it was just for a bit of fun, I never imagined how far I would come. Three years ago I would never ever expected to be winning Miss GB. Hard work really does pay off.”
She continued, “Winning Miss Great Britain marks the end of a long and difficult, but also amazing, journey. Although my body has changed so much I think don’t think my personality has, and I think that’s really helped me. The judges were able to see what kind of person I really am.”
After winning, she went on to recall how her breakup with her ex-fiancé inspired her to make some changes in her life.
Jen said before they broke up she would eat huge portions of pasta or pizza and even a chocolate bar.
She talked about her eating habits and said, “[Before we broke up] I would eat huge portions of pasta or pizza then a family-size chocolate bar. At weekends, we’d turn into virtual recluses sitting on the sofa in our pajamas eating takeaways – spending £20 each time.”
She added, “The day he left I thought my world had ended – I cried for weeks and used food as my comfort. But it ended up being the best thing that’s happened to me.”
Jen said she signed up at her local gym and never stopped since then.
She’s’ currently working on bigger things, such as releasing her next country single.
Jen will reportedly release her single this spring.
