Earlier this week, Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of New Delhi, announced a scheme to roll out free public transport facilities for women in New Delhi. But since he announced this, he has received a number of confrontations by his fellow lawmakers.
The CM of New Delhi said that this will boost safety for women in the capital city.
Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, said that he did not receive any proposal for the said scheme, which will give out free bus rides and train rides to women in New Delhi.
Union Minister Puri said, “You can’t announce a scheme first and then prepare a proposal. BJP is all for women. We’ll do anything for women if it’s possible. But schemes are not made like this.”
The minister also talked about the number of buses that are available in the nation’s capital and mentioned that the government should provide facilities for students and senior citizens.
He said, “The Supreme Court has mandated 11,000 buses in the national capital, how many buses are there today? I have said in the parliament that we should provide facilities for the elderly and the students on the metro and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is working on a technology for the same.”
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the scheme will be launched in 3 months and added that the program will cost around Rs. 700 annually for the Delhi Government.
As a response to all the comments he received after he announced the free bus rides scheme, Mr. Kejriwal said, “Delhi is the only government that is honest and is spending your money on facilities and is still running on profit.”
A week has been allotted for the office of CM Kejriwal so they could prepare a report for the scheme, after this, a proposal will be given out in the cabinet.
