CM Ashok Gehlot Announces Compensation For The Affected Families Of The People Who Were Killed And Injured In The Religious Event In Rajasthan

On June 23, 2019, 14 people lost their lives and 50 sustained injuries after a huge tent fell over them due to strong winds while they were attending a religious even in Barmer, Rajasthan.

ASP Khinv Singh said that a “Ram Katha” was organized by some religious men in the Jasol Area of Barmer, Rajasthan.

The ASP added that the tent fell due to strong winds.

Ratan Lal Bhargava, the Additional Superintendent of Police in Balotara, said, “At least 14 persons, including three women, have died in the incident and about 50 are injured. Reasons for the deaths will be clear after postmortem.”

According to Himanshu Gupta, the District Collector, nearly 1000 people were sitting under the huge tent as they were listening to the Ram Katha.

The 50 injured civilians were rushed to the nearest private and civil hospitals in Barmer and Jodhpur.

Ashok Gehlot, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, has asked the Jodhpur Divisional Commissioner BL Kothari to lead an investigation for the said accident.

The CM also announced Rs. 5 lakh as compensation for the family members of the people who lost their lives in the accident and Rs. 2 lakh as compensation for the family members of the injured people.

People who saw the accident said that the tent fell due to the strong winds and it even hovered in the air for a couple of seconds before it hit the ground.

Prime Minister Modi also tweeted about the accident, the PM wished a quick recovery for the injured ones.

Earlier today, CM Gehlot visited the area where the tent fell.
