Couple In Florida Arrested For Chaining Malnourished Dogs To Trees, 90 Dogs Rescued

55-Year-old Ferrell D. Godfrey and 60-year-old Marianne L. Godfrey, a couple out of Florida, were arrested by the police and are currently facing felony animal cruelty charges after authorities discovered 90 animals chained to trees.

According to investigating officers, the dogs that were chained to trees had no access to fresh water or food.

The couple is currently charged with felony animal cruelty.

John Tate, the Sheriff of Holmes County, said that deputies responded to the residence of the couple on an unrelated complaint and discovered 90 dogs that were chained to trees.

Sheriff Tate added, “Many of the animals appear to be severely malnourished and/or seriously injured and suffering from untreated wounds.”

The office of the Sheriff called the Alaqua Animal Refuge and requested them to assist them in the case.

Tate said, “Alaqua Animal Refuge is checking to see if any of these animals have microchips. So far, the refuge has determined one dog was stolen out of South Florida.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that Marianne Godfrey also has an animal cruelty charge in Houston County, Alabama.

Court records revealed that Marianne was convicted in June 2011 and was sentenced to 2 years of probation.
