Delhi-based Journalist arrested for sharing content about Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath

Prashant Kanojia, a New Delhi-based journalist was arrested by the UP police on June 8, 2019, for sharing an objectional post about Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, on Facebook and Twitter.

Kanojia is a freelance journalist, according to reports, he was arrested after a police officer in Lucknow registered a complaint for trying to “Malign” the image of Yogi Adityanath.

Prashant shared a video about CM Yogi on FB and Twitter.

The video showed a woman speaking to reporters of news channels outside the office of CM Yogi.

The woman claimed that she sent a marriage proposal to the CM.

Prashant Kanojia is arrested under the Information Act section 67 and is facing the charges of criminal defamation and making statements that have caused “public mischief”.

The freelance journalist is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Mass Communications and the Mumbai University.

Kanojia was arrested by the police from his house in West Vinod Nagar on June 8, 2019, and has been brought to Lucknow where he will be formally arrested.
