Independence Day 2019 is celebrated every year on the 15th of August and is a national holiday in all business organizations, schools, colleges, universities, academies, and etc. The day is celebrated to remember the fallen heroes of our country and to thank them for the sacrifices that they made to help India gain freedom.

On this day, the UK Parliament passed the Indian Independence Act 1947 and transferred the legislative sovereignty to the Indian Constituent Assembly.

On August 15th of 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru raised the Indian National Flag above the Lahori Gate in Delhi.

During this day, Jawaharlal Nehru gave a speech on Indian Independence Day, he said, “Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we will redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance… We end today a period of ill fortune, and India discovers herself again.”

Every Independence Day of India, the current Prime Minister raises the flag of India and addresses the nation. The entire even is broadcasted by Doordarshan and All India Radio, the national broadcasters of India.

The event also starts with the Shehnai Music of Ustad Bismillah Khan.

During this day, people in India go out with their family and attend parades, air shows, fireworks, local music concerts, and does kite flying.

On this day, Indians proudly fly wave their flag and sing songs such as “Vande Mataram” and start the day by reciting the national anthem, which is the “Jan Gan Man”.
