A 24-year-old Chinese man, Mr. Lv, was rushed to a hospital in Guangdong Province after feeling extreme sharp pain in his right ear.
The San Hospital in China’s Guangdong Province performed a number of medical tests, which led to the discovery of a family of cockroaches that were living in the man’s ear.
Over 10 cockroaches reportedly hatched near the man’s eardrum and were living inside his ear.
The incident happened in October this year.
Mr. Lv said his family shone a light in his ear and saw a large insect nesting within.
Dr. Yijin, an ear, nose, and nose specialist at the Sanhe Hospital, initially thought that it was a common ear pain.
In a statement that was released by Dr. Yijin, he said, “The ear hurt a lot, like something was scratching or crawling inside.”
Dr. Yijin added, “It caused a lot of discomfort.”
Doctors looked inside the ear of Dr. Yijin and confirmed that there were cockroaches living inside the man’s ear.
Dr. Zong Yijin said, “I discovered more than 10 cockroach babies inside.”
Dr. Yijin added, “They were already running around.”
To remove the roaches, doctors used a simple pair of tweezers to pull out each cockroach one by one.
The Sanhe Hospital’s deputy head of ENT, Dr. Jiang Tengxiang said Lv was responsible for having cockroaches inside his ear.
Lv reportedly had a bad habit of leaving food next to his bed, causing insects to go rummaging around his sleeping area.
Despite his carelessness, the patient ultimately sustained minor injuries.
Lv was discharged from the hospital on the same day and was placed on antibiotic treatment.
