A 48-year-old fisherman is currently fighting for his life after he accidentally shot himself in his face with a spear gun.

The incident happened in Scottburgh, KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa on September 30, 2019, at 9:30 am when the diver was diving alone.

People who saw the incident said that the man was distraught when he stumbled on the beach.

Members of the Scottburgh Lifesaving Club rushed towards him to assist him when he came out.

Emergency responders and lifeguards treated the fisherman before he was brought to a hospital through the air.

The spear entered the face of the man by punching its way through his right jaw and exited the face by his left eye.

The man was conscious when he managed to come to the sea.

An emergency ambulance, air paramedics, and 911 paramedics were sent out on the beach to provide medical care.

A voice note message from a lifeguard said that the man shot himself below his sinus and beneath his brain with his speargun.

Gruesome images show the man with the spear still on his face when the emergency responders arrived.

It is still unclear how the incident happened.

The man was airlifted to a hospital.

The latest medical report of the man said that he was still in a critical condition.
