Man arrested in Mumbai with 1.3 kilograms of Whale Vomit worth Rs. 1.7 crores

The Mumbai police arrested a 53-year-old man who came to the city to sell 1.3 kilograms of Ambergris, also known as whale vomit. Officials said that the whale vomit is worth around Rs. 1.7 crores.

Whale Vomit is a substance that comes as a secretion in the intestines of a sperm whale. They are used in making perfumes.

The Mumbai Police received an Intel about the sale, a joint team which consists of the Mumbai Police and the Forest Department Officials laid a trap on June June 15, 2019.

The trap led the police to arrest Rahul DUpare in the Calama Lane near the Vidyavihar Area.

The official statement of the Mumbai police said, “We seized 1.3 kg of ambergris, worth Rs. 1.7 crore, from him. It is a prohibited item. We have registered a case under relevant sections of the Wildlife Protection Act and have arrested Dupare.”

Sperm Whales are listed in the Endangered Species list and they are protected in India under the Wild Life Act.
