A man from Minnesota decided to open fire at a birthday party after the attendees of the birthday party were not singing Happy Birthday to his girlfriend.
20-year-old Delonte Thomas has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for open firing at the birthday party.
Thomas was attending a birthday party, not his girlfriend’s, and started to fight with the attendees for singing happy birthday to the host of the party but not his girlfriend.
The birthday of his girlfriend was also on the same day.
According to Complex, Thomas left the party and came back 20 minutes later with a semi-automatic gun and shot the woman who refused to sing happy birthday to his girlfriend.
Thomas shot the woman 9 times and shot 2 other attendees 8 times each.
Luckily, all of the attendees survived and recovered.
Thomas, the shooter, said claims he has no memory of shooting anyone in the party or having a gun with him.
According to a court statement, Thomas said, “I’m the peacemaker, I’m the one to try my best to make it through the situation. I don’t recall having a gun. I don’t recall shooting [anyone]. I just hope to get some type of mercy here.”
He added, “Everybody makes mistakes, and everybody deserves a second chance.”
