It is always nice to follow the path that your parents dreamed of for you, but only a few of them actually do it.
But for 2 family members in the United States of America, everything was planned perfectly.
The family that we are talking about became the first mother and daughter duo to pilot a commercial passenger plane together.
What a good thing to witness for the mother!
Captain Suzy Garrett has been flying planes for over 30 years.
She is one of the first women that got hired by SkyWest Airlines and has been working with them for a long time.
Doug, the husband of Suzy, is also a pilot and the couple managed to pass their passion onto their 2 children, Mark and Donna.
Dona, who is now 26, was recently hired to work with SkyWest Airlines, which gave her and her mother a chance to share the cockpit together.
Imagine you and your mother working together, flying a commercial passenger plane together!
During an interview that she had with SkyWest Airlines Blog, Suzy said that her kids were not thinking about becoming pilots until they started looking at other careers that are out there.
The mother believes that she and her husband’s work has opened up the eyes of their children.
She added:
What better career is out there where you can make this kind of money and not have to have high stress by taking your work home with you? Scheduling is a big reason why I’ve stayed with SkyWest. It was great when the kids were growing up. I could volunteer for field trips, parties at school and be that mom, while also having this wonderful career!
Donna confirmed that it was her parents’ passion and love for flying that made her want to follow in their footsteps.
Talking about her childhood, Donna said:
I got to do a lot of travelling growing up. I was exposed to the world, which was a big inspiration. Experiencing my mom and dad’s lifestyle was wonderful. It revealed to me the possibilities the industry offered.
The mother and daughter work at the same company.
Suzy said that she really loves to spend time doing what she loves with her daughter.
It is such a good thing to witness that a mother and daughter are working together at such a big company!
