Dump, not the trash but the bin bag art, is set to sell for over $67,800 at an auction in the upcoming future.
Gavin Turk, a British artist, is a modernist artist that studied at the Royal College of Art.
The art that he made is a lump of bronze that has been painted black and molded in ways that it would look like a trash bag.
The work has gone viral on the internet.
The Phillips Auctions House are selling the limited edition work of Turk.
If you are wondering why it’s so valued, it’s because of Turk himself.
Turk is an artist that has sold a number of Dump bags before for £20,000 and £30,000. His most recent one got sold for £32,000.
With an increase in demand for his work, he is set to sell this one for £51,000 (which is equivalent to $67,800 USD.
Talking about his work, Gavin Turk’s website says:
A bag full of discarded products, unrecycled organic matter thrown in with the by-products of our wasteful consumerist lifestyles. This rubbish is encapsulated in the formal roundness of this classic trompe-l’œil (trick of the eye) artwork. We are defined by what we throw away and conversely we are deconstructed by what we choose to display in our hallowed museum halls.
Turk is part of a group in the UK that is known as the Young British Artists. They started exhibiting their work in London in the 80s.
The group is also known for their huge impact on global arts all over the world.
