Police Officer Comforts 5-Year-Old Girl Who Asked “Are You Gonna Shoot Us?” During George Floyd Protest

An unidentified Houston Police Officer was caught on cam comforting a 5-year-old girl comforting a small child on Tuesday during a protest over the death of George Floyd, a man that was killed by the police.

Simeon Bartee, the father of the little girl, posted the video on Twitter with the caption of:

During the protest in Houston yesterday one of the police officers noticed my daughter crying. She asked him ‘Are you gonna shoot us’ he got down on one knee wrapped his arm around her and responded.

Simone, the 5-year-old girl, asked the police officer if she and her family could protest and if the police officers were going to shoot her.

Luckily the police officer that she talked with was extremely kind.

The officer said:

We’re here to protect you. We’re not here to hurt you at all. OK? You can protest, you can party — you can do whatever you want. Just don’t break nothing.

During an interview with KTRK, Bartee recalled the encounter and how he thanked the police officer for his kindness.

The father said that the cop gave his daughter a glimpse of what good law enforcement looks like.

He said during the interview:

We have dealt with a lot of pain from that and it’s kind of gone full circle for me now. I just want to tell the officer thank you for giving me a different perspective on what police officers, the good police officers, are like.

The police officer that was caught on cam comforting the child said that he was a father.

This fact reportedly surprised the 5-year-old girl, who later told her dad that the kind cop was a father too.

Good cops do exist.
