Researchers Confirm That Uranus Smells Like Farts And Rotten Eggs

No matter how old we become, we cannot get out of the “Uranus” jokes that we used to crack when were young.

But now, it looks like most of them were true.

A study that was published recently said that Uranus, the planet, smells like farts.

We are not making this up by the way.

The clouds of Uranus reportedly have hydrogen sulphide, which is responsible for the unpleasant smell that is released when we fart.

This is the same smell rotten eggs emit.

The study that we are talking about was published by Nature Astronomy.

Patrick Irwin, a planetary physics professor, explained what a person would smell once they visit the planet Uranus.

Irwin said:

If [a person] could survive the fall down to Uranus, they’d smell a horrible smell of rotten eggs. I’m not sure anyone’s really looked to see what the human nose would do in a hydrogen-helium atmosphere with a bit of hydrogen sulphide, but I imagine that you would still smell this pungent aroma.

The study utilized the Gemini North Telescope that is located in the Mauna Kea of Hawaii, USA.

They began using infrared light from the planet to identify the nature of the clouds on the planet.

There were previous theories that hydrogen sulfide was in the atmosphere of Uranus, but this is the first study that confirmed the theory.

This also proved that the planet smells like farts.
