Tap Water Catches Fire In China After Lighter Is Lit Near It And Residents Are Left Baffled

A video that is viral on the internet right now shows tap water catching fire in China and the residents are baffled because this has been going on for the last 3 to 5 years.

Watch the video below:

In the video, residents could be showing turning on the tap water and setting it on fire with a lighter.

I mean, how is that even possible?

The incident reportedly happened in the Panjin City of Liaoning Province in North-Eastern China.

A local woman named Wen posted the video on the internet and said that she and her family had been facing the same issue for the last 3 to 4 years.

In the video, a lighter could be set being lit up next to the tap water and as soon as it is lit up, the water catches fire.

During an interview with Cover News, Wen said:

It’s been a very long time. After washing our hands or dishes [with the water], our hands wouldn’t feel dry. They feel slippery and we can’t wash it off.

Wen said that the local water supply company said that the incident is out of their hands and they could not do anything about it.

The sad part about this is that Wen is not the only one that is facing the problem.

Over 100 families in her village are facing the same problem.

Soon after the video went viral, the issue was covered by a number of state news agencies, which forced the local authorities to look into the matter.

The water source of the affected area has been shut off and the matter is now being investigated by experts.

On Monday, the officials said that the inflammable water was caused by a leak of natural gas into the groundwater.

A statement that was published by the local experts said:

The water source for the Siying Village, where the residents live, is supplied with deep groundwater. After a small amount of natural gas leaked into the water layer, the natural gas was brought to the ground during the water extraction process.

The authorities are now fixing the problem.
