Nature plays a huge role in amazing us every single day, and that’s what happened to a woman when she got to witness an incredible horizontal rainbow.
Due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, everyone is staying inside so we can stop the spread of the virus.
Cessna Kutz, an amateur photographer from Issaquah, got to witness one of the extremely rare horizontal rainbows.
While sharing the images on social media, Cessna said: “Witnessed a pretty cool phenomenon out on Lake Sammamish today. A horizontal rainbow! Also known as a circumhorizontal arc. It almost doesn’t look real and I honestly barely edited these photos.”
The images on Facebook shows a rainbow covering the near-entirety of the lake.
The images are amazing!
Courtney Obergfell, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Seattle, said that what Cessna captured was not a rainbow at all.
Courtney said, “It’s an optical phenomenon that is essentially an ice halo formed by the refraction of the Sun in ice crystals in the atmosphere.”
Circumhorizontal arcs, the rainbow, are also known as “fire rainbows”.
They occur when the Sun is higher than 58 degrees above the horizon.
Circumhorizontal arcs are less common in Europe compared to the United States of America due to a lower-hanging sun.
