Unemployed Model Steals £230,000 From Her Grandmother With Dementia

An unemployed model was caught stealing £230,000 from her grandmother, who is diagnosed with dementia.

Evans-Schreiber, of Naseby, Northamptonshire, became unemployed when she was living in London.

The 38-year-old was asked to help after her maternal grandmother, who was in her 90s in January 2018.

She was later allowed to have access to her grandmother’s finances through a mandate authorized by the elderly woman.

Over a period of 9 months, from April 2018 to December 2018, the 38-year-old model made 42 transactions amounting to £230,251 from her grandmother’s account to her own.

At that time, the model had £40 in it.

The former model pleaded guilty to theft at the Northampton Crown Court and was handed a suspended sentence, avoiding serving time because she is the sole carer of her kid, who is very young.

The court heard that the 38-year-old used the money to travel around the world.

The woman reportedly went to Los Angeles and spent nights in high-end hotels, buying designer clothes, and used the money on cosmetic treatments.

The mother of the model got concerned about the lavish lifestyle, considering the fact that she was unemployed and was living in a house she had brought her in Naseby.

The mother later contacted the bank and got to know what she was doing, she found out that the money was not hers and she later called the police.

The police obtained bank statements for the grandmother’s account and discovered that her granddaughter was transferring the money to her account.

Upon further investigations, the police found luxury products such as designer handbags, sunglasses, shoes, and clothing.

The model admitted that she stole money from her grandmother, but she said she left enough so she can pay the care and bills of her grandmother.

At that time, there was only £5,500 left in the account of her grandmother.

Judge Rebecca Crane said her sentencing decision was extremely difficult as the 38-year-old is the sole carer of her young child.

She also said Evans-Schreiber had suffered from depression and spent time for alcohol addiction at the Priory Clinic in 2018.

The judge said the sentence of 2 years, suspended for 20 months, is a second chance.

The judge said, “Do not come to this court asking for a second chance, that is what you have been given with this sentence.”

Evans-Schreiber, the model, was also asked to undertake 150 hours of unpaid work and attend an alcohol program for 6 months.

The grandmother of the woman died at the age of 95.

The grandmother was diagnosed with dementia in 2014.

The poor grandmother never became aware what happened.
