Kochi Woman Slapped & Abused By Ola Driver For Paying Through E-Wallet And Not Cash

While the women are still confused to take cabs for their traveling purpose, here is another incident that says women are still not safe to prefer private vehicles for their journey.

With the introduction of tax services in India, it was viewed that traveling will become more comfortable and more secure now, particularly for the women who need to go to work at night times. However, these services have become exactly opposite with some bizarre incidents happening recently.

In a very strange and surprising incident, an Ola driver abused a woman and slapped her on face when they had an argument over the Payment. It’s hard to believe but it’s true!

On Tuesday in Kochi, Aveta Thampatty, a Bengaluru resident, booked an Ola cab from Lulu Mall to Panampilly Nagar at around 8:45 pm. She had a tiff with the driver when she tried to make the payment through her e-wallet.

A police officer told,

The driver wanted the woman to pay Rs 247, the fare in cash. The woman who had money in her e-wallet (Ola money smart card) however didn’t have liquid cash with her.

Not just that, even the lady passenger told the driver to contact the support team of Ola if he had any doubts and this was when he started misbehaving.  The girl has narrated the complete incident on her Facebook wall

Her post is going viral and people are showing resentment against the cab service provider since the girl was ill-treated badly:

Well , such a worst experience happened from @olacabs today at kochi _ i was travelling from lulu to panampily nagar. I was asked by this ola guy to pay in cash instead of ola money. Since i already filled by ola wallet and i dint have cash , this guy started accusing me and when i raised my voice , he beaten me on my face. Well, kerala is very unsafe to travel. He was showering abusive words on me. Really helpless situation #womensafetyinkerala

Police told as it was getting late, Aveta asked for ending the trip, but he denied and started abusing her in Malayalam. On top of that, when she tried to make the video of the driver, he slapped her.

On Wednesday morning, Aveta filed a police complaint, and the driver named K B Vinu had been booked under Section 354 of IPC (assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty).

Ola also acted immediately and suspended the driver just as the woman wrote about the unfortunate incident on Facebook, stating that the company has zero tolerance towards such incidents.

Well, it is the need of the hour that these cab service providers seriously take more care while enlisting their drivers for the better comfort and safety of passengers.
