Deborah Sue Culwell, a woman who was caught dumping puppies in a trash bin, has been sentenced to 1 year in jail. She will also be facing 6 years of probation after her custodial sentence.
Deborah was charged with 7 counts of felony animal cruelty and 7 counts of demeanor counts of abandoning dogs.
Deborah pleaded guilty in all the charges.
Deborah, an animal abuser, is also required to undergo random drug testing and complete mental health counseling.
Deborah is also banned from owning or possessing any animals until her 6 years of probation is served.
Earlier this year, a CCTV captured Deborah dumping a bag full of pups in a trash bin behind an auto parts store in Coachella.
In a video that was shared to the public by the Riverside County Animal Services, Deborah could be seen throwing the pups in a bin and getting back inside her vehicle and driving away from the sport.
Deborah abandoned a bag full of pups in the bin.
John, a passerby, saw the puppies in the dumpster and alerted the owner of the car parts shop.
The owner called the police.
The puppies were rescued by responding police officers from animal services.
Authorities said the puppies were around 3 days old and were mixed terrier pups.
Authorities said one of the puppies passed away after it failed to recover from the incident.
The Riverside County Animal Services shared the news on their Facebook Page.
They wrote “Unfortunately, we have learned one of the dumped puppies has died. The very kind foster volunteer contacted us last night and shared the bad news. She said she believes the runt of litter just could not make a comeback.”
The post added, “She said the little one might have been on the bottom of the bag when the woman dumped the puppies into a trash bin and, possibly, just never recovered from that traumatic moment.”
When the police arrested Deborah, she was taking care of 38 dogs.
