Florida, USA: A 58-year-old woman was arrested by the police after the police found his 6-year-old child found covered in flea bites and living in a house full of poop.
The 6-year-old child was found by the police on April 22, 2020, hiding at the home.
The incident happened at Fort Walton Beach, in Florida after the police managed to lock her out.
Toni Reid, the 58-year-old woman, had her house riddled with fleas, mold, dog urine, and excrement when the police got there.
The child was reportedly found sleeping on a bare mattress with springs poking out.
The woman is facing child neglect charges.
The 58-year-old woman had 3 dogs, one of which was covered in fleas and unable to walk.
Deputies who entered Reid’s squalid home said that the conditions were so bad that they got covered in fleas within minutes.
It is believed that the child, whose relationship to the accused has not been revealed for legal reasons, was forced to sleep inside a room that only had a mattress.
The kitchen of their house had multiple knives and containers of chemicals that were in reach of the 6-year-old.
Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said that Reid called to say that she was locked out of their house by the child before alleged abuse was found out.
Once the police arrived, they found the 6-year-old child hiding away in a cupboard.
Reid was arrested on May 1, 2020.
The Okaloosa County Jail is currently holding Reid.
If found guilty, Reid can spend up to 5 years in prison, 5 years of probation, and a $5,000 fine.
