Nebraska Police Officers Bring Shelter Dogs On Patrol So They Could Increase Adoption Rates
Police Officers of the La Vista Police Department of Nebraska are bringing shelter dogs on ride-along so they could increase the adoption rates of the dogs.
In partnership with the Nebraska Humane Society, the police officers bring one dog per ride under the “K9 for a Day.”
The first trip started with Mickey, a pit bull that was up for adoption.
Thanks to the program, Mickey got adopted days after it got to ride with the police officers of the La Vista Police Department.
The La Vista Police Department got the idea from the Green Bay Police of Wisconsin.
During an interview with This Dog’s Life, Bryan Waugh, the Police Captain, said, “The program offers an opportunity to not only strengthen our relationship with our partners at the Nebraska Human Society,”
“But also allows our officers an opportunity to engage our community in a way that we may not have been able to without the addition of a great dog.”
