17-Year-Old Hunter From Georgia Shot Dead By Friend After Being Mistaken For Deer

A 17-year-old boy from Georgia was shot dead by a friend, who mistaken him for a deer while they were on a hunting trip.

17-year-old Bobby Lane, the victim, was on a hunting trip with a friend in Glynn County, Georgia, on September 29, 2019, when Hector Romero, his friend, shot him with a rifle.

Romero shot Bobby after he thought it was a deer.

32-year-old Romero carried Bobby Lane to a gas station on Highway 82 and 303 and helped him rush to a hospital in the area.

Bobby succumbed to his injuries later that day.

During a press release, the Glynn County Police Department confirmed that Romero and Bobby knew each other.

The Glynn County Police Department and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources have launched a joint investigation.

Bobby was shot by a bullet that came from a riffle.

It is still not clear if Romero will face criminal charges.

No charges were announced by the Glynn County Police Department.

Mark McKinnon, the spokesperson of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, said, “Our critical incident re-creation team is reconstructing the incident – just like you would a fatal car crash, They’ll take measurements, look at angles and they’ll determine what happened.”

In a GoFundMe page that was set up to help the family of Bobby in covering the funeral expenses, it said that Bobby was an “avid” hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors.

The page was set up by Michael Rawling, the cousin of Bobby Lane.

During an interview with WJXT News4Jax, Rawling said Bobby had a heart made out of gold.

He added, “You don’t expect anything like this to happen to a child, It’s very hard. Very, very hard.”

The page that was set by Rawling has raised over 2500 USD, the goal is $10,000.

Rest in Peace Bobby, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
