CFL Starts Dimming Off, As LEDs Takes Over The Whole Market
One of the most common thing bulb which every one of uses in our daily life. Just after 1 year of BJP government, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Damodar Modi launched the new scheme named Ujala. The primary focus behind launching this scheme is to provide energy efficient lighting to every house in India. For this scheme the government wants people to use LEDs more to conserve more power as it was efficient than any other bulbs.
Impact of launching Ujala scheme
Just after taking this move the price of per LED bulb reaches to Rs 150 or even more in some of the cities. Before the implementation of Ujala scheme, the price was only Rs 50-60.
Another impact of this scheme was that the demand and production of CFL bulbs fell down by rapid pace. All the manufacturer shifted to production of LEDs for creating more and more revenue.
Why did people shift to LEDs?
CFL was launched in 1998. It was a perfect substitute for incandescent bulbs at that time. Near about 10 years of launching LEDs, it was examined that it’s time to substitute CFL with LEDs. However, the question is why?
CFL bulbs which were launched in 1998 consist of mercury which causes skin cancer. Apart from this LED lamps does not consist of mercury. According to some reports from the sources, it was found that LEDs was the perfect and healthy substitute of CFL.
After this many studies have been conducted on this. Results of these studies are one by one all the production houses of CFL get shifted to LEDs.
Statement of Anant Purandare
Anant Purandare who is the Chief Financial Officer of Bajaj Electricals stated that CFL adjusted to create Rs 360 crore from its lightning business in 2013. While as a whole overall revenue for 2013 is Rs 600 crore.
While he stated that the business of CFL fell to Rs 54 crore in the financial year 2018. He added that market for CFLs is almost dead people and companies get shifted to LEDs.
In India apart from Bajaj Electricals, many other production houses like Havells get shifted to production of LEDs. Industry stated that annually 450-470 millions of LEDs are produced. While only about 150 millions CFL are produced in a year.
