A strong earthquake of 7.7 magnitude on the Richter scale has shaken south Asia, with more than two minutes of sustained tremors felt in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, and buildings rattled in Afghanistan and India.
Tremors were felt in Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Multan, Chitral, Mardan and nearby areas. The epicentre of the earthquake was 265km NE of Kabul. In most parts of Delhi, people rushed out of high-rise buildings in panic as the tremors continued for several minutes.
Following the earthquake, there are reports of phone lines being down in parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
