Generally, the age between 15 to 30 are the best days of anybody’s life. They look stunning and are filled with energy, ready to explore the world, have tons of dreams, desires, and aspirations. Everybody struggles to achieve their goal and that is how life is. When it comes to women, the society always views things differently, isn’t it?
For example, if you see a male drinking alcohol, we wouldn’t mind him but if you see a woman swigging down a few drinks, we start questioning her character. This exists everywhere. The same incident happened recently.
Guwahati-based journalist Nandan Pratim Sharma Bordoloi faced the ire and Facebook users after he posted an image of two girls in traditional attires standing in front of a liquor shop, on Twitter. The picture was taken on the occasion of Saraswati Puja. Before going into details, you might want to look at the picture.
He captioned it as: “Picture of the day. No caption…”
Even though Bordoloi has not clearly said anything, the post apparently hinted that women buying liquor from wine shop are not right. The outrageous post, however, has not gone down well on social media as Twitterati, dubbed the post as “sexist and unethical”.
The picture has been flooded with comments condemning the news anchor’s post. Needless to say, this sparked a debate. Some netizens called out the blatant sexism and asked him what did he want to portray. Some said that there is nothing wrong with it. Some even posted pictures of men buying liquor and asked why that doesn’t seem off? In fact, it is said that this is a common practice in the state.
Soon, the media channels run the picture as news. They circled the women in the pictures.
People mistook Bordoloi’s post and it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what he was implying in the picture. His point was not to buy alcohol on such auspicious day. He later deleted the tweet.
