Bengaluru’s Airport Becomes The First To Introduce Automatic Tray Retrieving System, Just 25 Sec For Security Screening From Now Onwards

In this era of modernization, everything has become simpler, be it the process of booking tickets, cancellation, or any other thing, but however, security screening at the airport has been always considered as one of the time taking tasks. But, here’s a new idea that will be followed by an Indian airport, now onwards.

Now, passengers who were about to travel to any place through Bengaluru‘s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) will have a shorter wait time for security check-ins. The KIA which restarted its 24-hour operations from Monday is the first airport in the country to introduce Automatic Tray Retrieval System (ATRS).

“Using the ATRS, four trays can be pushed into the scanner at a time,” the airport’s spokesperson was quoted addressing a national media channel.

According to the sources, this system will reduce the role of security officials during the baggage screening process as the baggage and the separated valuables placed on the trays will reach the other end without the involvement of Central Industry Security Force officials at the spot, thus making them available for other important duties in the airport premises.

Meanwhile, the airport authorities even decided to install screens to ensure passengers also get to witness the screening process. “Earlier, the scanned baggage was displayed on a monitor in front of the CISF personnel, and passengers couldn’t see the process. The additional screens will show passengers what the CISF officer is viewing,” the spokesperson said.

Another source claimed that the whole process of security screening will be accomplished within 25 seconds and it is believed that if the security personnel suspects something untoward in any specific baggage, they have the option to divert it into a ‘reject line’ at the very moment.

Post the formal approval from the regulators, all the 18 security checkpoints will be equipped with ATRS, and as of now, the operations were partially closed at the Bengaluru Airport, the third busiest in India, due to maintenance work of one of the runways from February 17. And the upgraded taxiways will enable aircraft to leave the airport faster than ever before, as mentioned in the concerned sources.

A recently released statement from the KIA read.“Now that KIA has the rapid exit taxiway (RET), aircraft can exit the runway faster, freeing the space for more air traffic movement.” It must be noted that in the earlier financial year, the KIA had recorded 1,78,117 air traffic movements, which amounts to about 500 movements per day, which is comparatively a great number.
