Among all the festivals in India people celebrate Ganesh Chathurthi in a very grand scale. The festival is celebrated for 10 days after that the idol is immersed in the river nearby. The festival is celebrated in the month of August or September which is called as Sravana Mas according to Hindu calendar.
Why is Ganesh Chathurthi Celebrated?
There are many stories we listen which say about the history of Ganesh Chathurthi. Among them, the story here is heard every time during the Ganesh Chathurthi. Goddess Parvathi made an idol with the dirt off her body while having the bath and gave life to the idol to guard the door while she is bathing. Lord shiva that entered the door without his permission is stopped. Then Lord Shiva with anger cut the head of the child.
Goddess Parvathi after seeing this asks Lord Shiva to make the little one to life again. So Lord Shiva order his followers to get the Head of an elephant. He then fixed the elephant head to the little one and bring him back to life. Because of this, he is called Gajanan.
Pooja Vidhi of Ganesh Chathurthi:
Many skilled artists make the Idols of Ganapathi in various forms and prepare them for the festival. Everyone bring home an idol on the day of Ganesh Chathurthi. People clean their home, tie flowers and mango leaves which is a tradition for Hindus for any festival. Everyone after hand bath and where new clothes and prepare for Pooja time.
After all the rituals people offer sweets and all the varieties of food they made on this day as Prasad. On this day during Pooja people must listen to the story of Ganesh which keeps the devotees away from troubles the whole year.
Ganesh Chaturthi Prasad and Bhog 2018:
After the pooja is done people offer sweets to Lord Ganesha as Prasad. In Prasad, they include sweets and savories like modak, Jaggery, coconut etc. It is believed that lord Ganesha is fond of Modaks which is prepared by her mother. So the special thing in Prasad for Ganesh is Modak.

Night Mahurat = 23:11 pm
