Earlier, CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai announced a pact of granting free WiFi to the 400 busiest Railway stations in India. This activity assured by Google is so far going well as per the norms. Free Wifi is enabled at Udhagamandalam (Ooty) station today, making it the 100th WiFi enabled railway station in India. According to Google, in India, over 10 million Indians now have an access to fast Internet. that attracts over 5 million monthly users, the Google Railtel Wi-Fi has over 15,000 first time users connecting to the network every day.
This milestone depicts the successful completion of the first quarter of task. To fulfill the rest of the work Google has been working in partnership with Railtel since January 2016. In addition to this, Google has also introduced Google Station, which gives partners an easy set of tools to roll-out Wi-Fi hotspots in public places.
“We’re really excited about reaching this milestone and it is an incredible feeling to look back and see how far we’ve come since we announced that we were partnering with Indian Railways and RailTel to provide Wi-Fi at 400 railway stations throughout the country. But what has really inspired us are the stories of how people are using this high-speed access to the full and open Internet. They’re using Railwire Wi-Fi to be more productive with their time and to get things done more efficiently,” Gulzar Azad, the Country Head of Connectivity, Google India said.
Google responded the experience of a user named Bhagwan Sahay who uses the Internet at Jaipur Railway station, one of the earliest stations to be connected to Railwire Wi-Fi.
Bhagwan said:
“I visit [Jaipur station] every 3 to 4 days to get fast access to the Internet. I stop there for a few minutes, download apps, update them and get things my daughter wants. She is in 10th grade and uses my smartphone in the evenings to fulfill her educational needs. She also teaches my wife, her mother, to read and write using my smartphone.”
In recent days, a notable number of people started using the Google’s Wi-Fi services, especially in Patna, Bihar. RailTel released some statistics, in which showed Patna railway station topped the chart in terms of internet search using the free Wi-Fi service.
However, the statistics showed that the maximum searches were for porn sites, according to a Railway official.
Jaipur railway station occupied the second place in using Internet search, followed by Bengaluru and New Delhi.
