The police in Russia are currently investigating a couple who adopted a dog from an animal shelter, took it home, and ate it after cooking it.
The horrific incident came to light after the shelter staff visited the house of the adopters.
Ekaterina Valyus, the volunteer, said, “When I arrived I smelled fried meat.”
Valyus said she saw hair and remains of the dead dog on the porch.
She found the rest of the dog on the stove of the couple.
Galina, a woman, had taken Nika, the dog, as a pet, promising to give it a new house.
Initially she denied that they butchered the dog and ate it.
But when the police were called, Galina admitted that she killed the dog, which was rescued from the streets and adopted it from an animal shelter.
The police said Nika was bludgeoned to death with an iron rod.
Irina Savitskaya, the director of the dog shelter, said Galina had no shame for the act she did.
She is now demanding a prison sentence for the killing of the dog.
When she and her unnamed husband came to shelter, Nika ran up to them. The shelter staff said it was like they fell in love with the dog.
Irina said, “She gave me her passport details, made a contract, took the dog, and ate her new pet that very evening.”
Irina added, “She has admitted that she had butchered the dog and ate it.”
She continued, “She just says ‘no-one will put me in jail over a dog’.”
The police have launched an official investigation about the animal cruelty incident.
