Whatsapp New Bug: Can Crash Your Friend’s Whatsapp With Just One Message

Here is the news about the New Bug in Whatsapp the universal instant messaging system owned by Facebook. Whatsapp done a great work in improving its security, but finds some or the other problem. Now the latest news is a 2000 characters about 2kb data can crash your whatsapp messenging app easily. You just send this 2kb data message to your friend, then it  doesnot simply end at the initial crash. when you try to go back into the message thread will cause another force close,  then the only way to rectify the issue is to completely delete the entire conversation.

Indrajeet Bhuyan and Saurav Kar, both of Indian origin and 17 years old, found this vulnerability in WhatsApp for sure will pop who is the victim of the issuer. These two people reported this bug to ‘ The Hacker News ‘, ensuring that via a written message with special characters may cause the application to stop, making it impossible to reopen the conversation. The only way to open whatsapp you have to delete his/her whole conversation and start a fresh chat, because opening the message keeps on crashing WhatsApp unless the chat is deleted completely.

New Bug affected only Android users but doesn’t affect Windows phone 8.1 users

The students demonstrated the act on a screencast video, and noted that they’ve tested it on WhatsApp versions 2.11.431 and 2.11.432, and that it’s known to affect any Android device up to Android 4.4 KitKat. WhatsApp could also be victim to the exploit on Lollipop, though it’s possible the latest version of Android hasn’t yet been tested.

Although the attack does not work on Windows phones, and has not been tested on iOS but it is still a big issue which people can exploit very badly like deleting a group by sending the message to not let others keep track of the chat.

This isn’t the first time a messaging exploit has been revealed to cause app crashes. Earlier it was discovered that sending a huge message with greater than 7mb in size crashes the app, but this new research shows how a just 2kb message can crash the app.

New Bug in Whatsapp How it works ???

For example, Any member of your WhatsApp group could intentionally send a specially crafted message to exit people from the group and delete the group.  it would force the affected individuals to remove themselves from the group.  if you don’t want someone to keep records of your chat with them, then you can also send the same message exploit to that person.

WhatsApp, bought by Facebook for $19 billion in February this year, has 600 Million users as of October 2014, and according to the researchers, an estimated number of users affected by the vulnerability could be 500 Million.

WhatsApp was in news, it has begun using a powerful new encryption program aimed at protecting users’ conversations from unwanted surveillance and snooping. The app maker describe this move as the “largest deployment of end-to-end encryption ever.”
