World Mental Health Day is celebrated each year on October 10 and is an international day for global mental health education, awareness, and advocacy against social stigma.

The world mental health day was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the WFMH (World Federation for Mental Health). The WFMH is a global mental health organization that works at 150 countries around the globe.

On October 2, 2020, thousands of supporters will come up and celebrate this day with programs and forums to bring attention to mental illnesses and how anxiety and depression can affect the lives of people.

On October 10, 1992, the World Mental Health Day was celebrated at the initiative of Deputy Secretary General Richard Hunter. In 1994, the day had no specific theme other than promoting anxiety and depression and educating people on how it works and that it is real.

The 1994 World Mental Health Day was the first day that got celebrated with a theme. The theme that was chosen that year was “Improving the Quality of Mental Health Services throughout the World.”
