A WW2 veteran that beat the coronavirus disease was released from the hospital so he could celebrate their 104th Birthday.
Major Wooten, who is from Alabama, USA, was released from the Madison Hospital on December 1, 2020.
They were being treated at the hospital for the coronavirus.
The man was fatigued and was reportedly a little fuzzy in the mental state during the treatment in the hospital.
However, after feeling well, the man was discharged from the hospital.
In images that were released from the hospital, the veteran could be seen being rolled out in his wheelchair while wearing a face mask.
As he was exiting, the man was greeted by a group of nurses clapping and cheering.
They were also singing “Happy Birthday Dear Pop Pop” as he was being brought out.
The man also had balloons for a special occasion.
Holley Wooten McDonald, the granddaughter of the veteran, was interviewed by ABC News, and during the interview, they said:
I’m just thankful that they were able to treat him so quickly and we were able to get him tested. It’s amazing that a 104-year-old survived COVID.
Wooten was with a private first class in the US Army for several years, worked on railroads, and also repaired trains in Paris that were damaged by bombs.
After working for the military, he went on to work for the US Steel in Birmingham.
The veteran contracted the virus on November 23, 2020, after their mother tested positive.
At first, the man was given an infusion of monoclonal antibody therapy bamlanivimab – however, the next day his condition worsened.
As a result, he had to be brought to the hospital for treatment.
The family of the veteran said that they had to bring the elderly one to the hospital just before thanksgiving.
After some time, the man started to feel better.
McDonald, the granddaughter of the veteran, talked about the condition of the elderly man, where they said:
I don’t know if that medicine just started working… but within 24 hours he was better. According to his granddaughter, his blood oxygen levels are much healthier and his lungs are ‘clear as a bell’. He just brings so much happiness to everybody. Just seeing everybody and their reaction to him, it just makes you very proud to call him your grandfather, and I love him so much.
The mother that contracted the virus along with her sister recovered from the coronavirus.
The family said that the mother and the sister had to spend 1 week on a ventilator.
Such a strong person!
May the family of Mr. Wooten and the veteran themself celebrate the birthday in the best and safest possible way!
